Fun Things to Do While Your Home Is Being Shown

You’ve decided to upgrade your home or you need to move because of a job opportunity. What do you do when the real estate agent is showing your home, especially if you have children? There are a number of things you can do when you need to give the agent time alone with buyers.

Some Fun Things to Do While Your Home is Being Shown

  1. Take a Hike

Put on a sturdy pair of shoes and go for a walk through your neighbourhood or hit the local trails. Pack a nutritious snack to take with you and enjoy eating it out of doors. (Be sure not to leave any litter behind.)

2. Visit your Local Library

Find a branch that is open in the evening and on weekends (when many potential buyers may want to arrange a showing) and head over to check out the selection of books. Most libraries have designated areas for children where you can sit and read, so you can have your own version of story time if you have young children. Older ones can choose a book (or more than one) that they would like to bring home and start reading it until it’s time to go home.

3. Go Out for Dinner

If the showing is around mealtime, choose a family friendly restaurant to visit. Find a McDonald’s that has a children’s playground if you want to give your children something to do after they eat. You can relax with a cup of coffee or tea after you have finished eating while they burn off some excess energy.

4. Go Skating or Swimming

Find out if your local arena or pool offers family skating or swimming during the times that your home is likely to be shown to potential buyers. Have a “go bag” ready with the stuff you need to enjoy an hour or so hitting the ice or enjoying a relaxing dip in the water.

Once you get back to your home, the showing will be finished and the potential buyers will have had the chance to view your home in private. Your realtor will relay any questions they may have, and hopefully you will receive an offer as well.
