What To Keep In Mind During Your Spring Renovation Project

Spring is a popular time for people to undertake renovation projects on their homes. It’s probably not a coincidence that it’s also tax refund time as well. Many homeowners use some or all of their windfall to finance one or more home improvement projects. If you are thinking about selling your home, you may want to keep the following considerations in mind when you plan your project:

What to Keep in Mind During your Spring Renovation Project

  • Curb Appeal Matters

Pay attention to what potential buyers will see as they pull up to your home. It may be helpful to go out in front of your property and stand across the street to “see” your home from a buyer’s point of view. Make note of anything that makes your home look unkempt and correct it.

Add flowers, trim hedges and shrubs. Add new plants or a flower bed if you feel that your front yard needs some extra colour.

One of the best returns on investment you can make at the front of your home is to update your front door. Consider painting it in a bright colour to make it inviting to buyers.

  • Don’t Spend Money on Major Renovations

You probably won’t get your money back in the selling price for your home. Consider updating the kitchen countertop or adding a backsplash. You may want to re-grout the tile in the bathroom.

  • Do Check for Cracks and Repair them Now

Look for cracks in your foundation or any structural areas of your home and look after them before potential buyers view your home. Home inspectors will point them out to buyers and it will cost you less to deal with them now then when you have to negotiate repairs into the purchase price.
